Psychodynamics depression

Depression is a mood or affective disorder in which a sustained emotional state colors a personal perception, thoughts and behavior, it is the most common psychological problem people face.

Many theorists have been developed a variety of models to explain why certain individuals develop depressive disorders and to aid in the development of a treatment plan for them.

Other theorists have used a psychodynamic model to explain the complex set of feeling and behavior that make up depressive disorders.

The depressed man interacts simultaneously with himself and with others on his environment and with that environment itself.

The history of psychoanalytic/psychodynamic approaches to depression begins with Sigmund Freud’s classic work ‘Mourning and Melancholia’.

Central to Freud’s view was that early losses in childhood led to later vulnerability to depression in adulthood.

Core concepts include the existence of unconscious processes and motivation. Psychodynamic theories place emphasis on ego deficiencies and the lack of living relationship with the mother in the development of depression.
